I use Orange broadband. In the mornings and early afternoon they're good - I get around 16mb. However in the late afternoon and evenings my speed drops right down to as low as 0.5mb. It varies, and fluctuates anywhere within that range.
It results in all the usual problems or slow page opening and slow uploading of php/html etc pages I'm writing. The most annoying thing though is that 4OD and BBC iPlayer keep freezing and buffering!
Where I live there's no fibre optic cable in the street and I don't have (and don't want) Sky. BT I believe will have this same problem.
I'm not sure if it's because there's more users in the evenings or if it's Orange deliberately slowing the connection. I've called many times to their helpdesk - I'm sure I don't need to go into the details of how unhelpful they were.
I'm not sure what the options are apart from to move house. I'm stuck behind this inadequate, old, poorly updated BT infrastructure, and am dependant on my internet connection...
Any suggestions on better ISPs welcome.
